It is with great sadness we report long-time Cincinnati Division 7 member and well-known model railroader, Gerry Albers passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the age of 80. He was born in Cincinnati on July 19, 1944. Gerry and his incredible Virginian Railway were renowned in the local, regional and national model railroad communities. He was a life member of the National Model Railroad Association, a past Treasurer and Trustee of Cincinnati Division 7 and past Chair of the annual Cincinnati Model Train Show. Our condolences go to Gerry’s wife Jenny, and all their friends and family. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Tuesday, October 29 at 10:30 am at Crossroads Church in Oakley at 3500 Madison Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45209, with gathering at 10 am. See the Memoriams page for Gerry’s official obituary, a photo tribute and a synopsis of his model railroading journey. Text and photo by John Burchnall.
It is with great sadness we report long-time former Division 7 member Brady McGuire passed away on September 12, 2024 in Denison, TX at the age of 79. He was born on May 29, 1945, in Sankertown, PA, and was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jane (Tucker) McGuire. Brady was an avid rail fan and model railroader, with primary interest in the PRR. He worked as a Process Engineer at Procter & Gamble for 27 years, helping develop the novel production process for Pringles potato chips. Later, Brady transferred from Cincinnati to Sherman, TX to work at the Folgers coffee plant. He and Jane became fixtures at many model train meets and conventions. Our condolences go to all Brady’s friends and family. See our Memoriams page for obituary, testimonies and photos.
We're offering an exciting new benefit for NMRA Div 7 members - the Model Railroading Roundtable (MRR) program. Small groups of modelers gather in a local home or meeting place and learn a new model railroading skill. Those that have mastered the skill host and assist the group to develop that skill in a one-to-two hour session.
The program started in early 2024. Several topics are being offered and developed. Those interested in hosting a session can contact Sam Swanson at nwindes1980@gmail.com to propose a topic and timeframe. Sign-up announcements for each class will be published in the The Oil Can. See the Modelers Aid page for more details, including a useful pdf attachment.
We're offering an exciting new benefit for our new and not so new members - Cincinnati Division 7 Orientation Events. Our inaugural session was 7-9:30 pm on September 17, 2024 at the Cincinnati Marriott North Hotel in West Chester, Ohio. Further sessions are being planned, possibly in January and July of each year. Attending this event will accelerate your join-up and fun in both the NMRA and the hobby by sharing the multitude of benefits, opportunities, and resources available, while also providing collaborative interactions with Division 7 leaders and experts. See attached flyer for more details. Please contact Chuck Endreola for more information at chuckendreola@yahoo.com or 440-823-7374
